No Johnny-Come-Lately to PDF/A

People have gone to great lengths to ensure that important information is accessible far into the future. (Few as effectively as the ancient Egyptians, who would bury payprus documents with their dead and keep records in stone on their monuments.)
The modern approach is to put valuable information into PDF/A format. Adlib has recently become a member of the PDF/A Competence Center, but we are no Johnny-come-lately to PDF/A. Adlib products have been turning out PDF/A compliant results for years.
In the most recent release of our products, the quality of our PDF/A creation and validation capabilities has significantly improved. In previous benchmarks of our PDF/A validation results against the Isartor test suite, Adlib Express stacked up well against other products such as Solid Documents and Adobe Acrobat.
PDF/A validation accuracy has been improved with Adlib Express V.4.10 as it scored a 99% overall accuracy by validating 202 out of 204 test cases included in the Isartor Test Suite, which was developed by the PDF/A Competence Center. Enhanced validation of PDF/A documents ensures that digital content being archived will be accessible far into the future if required.
The ability to automate the creation of PDF/A compliant results is coming up regularly as a must-have requirement for businesses that we are speaking with. These include government agencies and financial institutions that must ensure that documents are easily accessible for Freedom of Information (FOIA) requests, and accessible long into the future in the event of litigation.
I can foresee businesses using PDF/A as the standard for all their requirements instead of PDF because it offers the additional advantages of long term accessibility. If your business does not need all of the bells and whistles available for PDF, standardizing on PDF/A may be the right solution for you.
Membership in International PDF/A Competence Center
If you are looking for information about the PDF/A format, the PDF/A Competence Center is a great place to start – containing a wealth of information about the PDF/A standard and its advantages.
As a member of the PDF/A Competence Center, our goal is to take a more active role in the promotion of this standard in North America. While this format is becoming more common around the world, adoption in Canada and the United States is lagging behind EMEA. Perhaps Canada, whose culture is somewhere between European and American, can serve as a bridge and an example to the rest of North America in PDF/A adoption.
What do you think? Can you foresee a time when your business would use PDF/A as the standard for all your requirements?
